چکیده

This study describes an in situ technique allows measuring thickness of biofilm growing at liquid-liquid interface. Two probes (100μm) were used to measure the electrical conductance, the first probe penetrates the first liquid (hydrophobic liquid) then the upper surface of the formed biofilm and the later penetrates the second liquid (salt solution), then the lower surface of the biofilm. The hydrophobic liquid-biofilm and biofilm-salt solution interfaces can be identified from the change in conductance values between the three phases. Results of this work showed that rate of biofilm formation were 15μm/day for non-aerated system and 20μm/day for aerated system. The relation between biofilm thickness and its dry weight for aerated and non-aerated systems can be linearly correlated according to the following formulas: Th. = 0.462DW + 0.063 and Th. = 0.472DW+0.0429 respectively.

Characterization of Liquid Bridge in Gas/Oil Gravity Drainage in Fractured Reservoirs

Gravity drainage is the main mechanism which controls the oil recovery from fractured reservoirs in both gas-cap drive and gas injection processes. The liquid bridge formed between two adjacent matrix blocks is responsible for capillary continuity phenomenon. The accurate determination of gas-liquid interface profile of liquid bridge is crucial to predict fracture capillary pressure precisely. ...

Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method for the assignment of enalapril and enalaprilat in human plasma

A rapid and sensitive liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method was developed for the determination of enalapril and enalaprilat in human plasma. Detection of analytes was achieved by tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI) interface in positive ion mode which was operated under the multiple-reaction monitoring mode. Sample pretreatment was involved...

Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction Based on Solidification of Floating Organic Drop as an Efficient Preconcentration Method for Spectrophotometric Determination of Aluminium

A rapid, simple, and sensitive dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on solidification of floating organic drop (DLLME-SFOD) method coupled with UV–Vis spectrophotometry has been applied for the extraction and determination of trace amounts of aluminium. The aluminium was extracted from the aqueous media containing aluminon and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). After rapid injecti...

Wave Reflection and Refraction at the Interface of Triclinic and Liquid Medium

A Mathematical model has been considered to study the reflection and refraction phenomenon of plane wave at the interface of an isotropic liquid medium and a triclinic (anisotropic) half-space. The incident plane qP wave generates three types of reflected waves namely quasi-P (qP), quasi-SV (qSV) and quasi-SH (qSH) waves in the tric...

Nutrient Composition Promotes Switching between Pellicle and Bottom Biofilm in Salmonella

Salmonella is one of the most frequently reported causes of foodborne illness worldwide. Non-typhoidal serovars cause gastroenteritis in humans. Salmonella can grow on surfaces forming biofilms, contributing to its persistence since biofilms are difficult to eradicate due to the high resistance to antimicrobials and disinfectants. It has been described that there are two crucial biofilm promoti...
